Maile Bowen is a writer, artist, and embodiment teacher based in Walyalup on Noongar Country, Western Australia. Her work explores the relationship between land, body, and belonging, drawing from her Native Hawaiian (kanaka maoli) ancestry, community work, and years of feminist writing. Water and land are at the core of her practice, which spans writing, installation, video, and somatic-led creative spaces.
With a background in Community Development and Indigenous Studies, Maile’s work often moves between the personal and political—grounded in grief, love, and a responsibility to place. She was the founding editor of Accidental Discharge, a feminist publication active from 2013 to 2017 that was distributed worldwide. Her current practice continues to evolve through nature-based residencies, collaborative projects, and self-led writing and embodiment retreats.
